Teaching Features

Five Major Teaching Approaches

The Salvation Army Tai Yuen Nursery School adopts five major teaching approaches to nurture children holistically:

1. Project Approach

Stimulates children to explore voluntarily and build up knowledge through the process of observation, discussion and exploration. Through real-life project activities, children develop inquiry spirit and problem-solving abilities.

2. Montessori Method

With a dedicated Montessori Room, the school trains mathematical and logical thinking, and develops reading, writing skills and self-care ability. Through Montessori materials, children learn through hands-on activities, cultivating concentration and independence.

3. Fun With English (Pre-school English Teaching)

Focuses on arousing children's interest in learning English, and developing listening and pronunciation skills. Through interactive games and story activities, children are exposed to English in a relaxed and pleasant environment.

4. Life Education

Manifesting the Love of Jesus Christ, the school concerns individual child's needs and development, fostering positive and optimistic values. Through character development activities, children build empathy and social skills.

5. Inheriting Chinese Culture

By understanding Chinese festival customs, appreciating and experiencing various forms of traditional art, and participating in related project-based learning activities, the school cultivates young children's interest in Chinese culture and fosters their sense of national identity.

Curriculum Planning

Centered on children, the school implements comprehensive curriculum and trains independent learning ability to help develop a good learning attitude and character. The school follows the "Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide" (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation.

Assessment: Continuous assessments are conducted, and a profile on each child's learning is kept to record children's growth and progress in different learning areas.
